Specialist Status

Creativity & Literacy Specialisms

Through our Specialisms of Creativity and Literacy we aim to raise standards of achievement and quality of learning for all our students, offering innovative ways of learning and deeper levels of engagement. We offer a broad and accessible enrichment programme throughout the year to support their independent learning.

A good level of literacy is a vital tool for all learners to succeed. Throughout year 7 all students follow a nationally-recognised reading programme, which helps them to further develop their literacy skills, enjoyment of reading and  creative ability. This is further supported by the creative Year 7 Homebase thematic curriculum.

Teachers support students with creativity and literacy, through their planning and delivery of engaging learning opportunities.  Communication and personal learning skills is a regular feature of tutor-based activities. All students at OSCA have numerous opportunities to enter national competitions which reflect our specialisms.

There are different themes running throughout the year in the Learning Resources Centre when students can read books by particular authors or create their own piece of fiction.  Through creative experiences students are offered the opportunity to work with actors, playwrights, artists and leading professionals to highlight the impact and importance of creativity & literacy in everyday life.
