December 2012

Hello everyone and welcome to the latest update from the PE staff,

It has been a very busy and long term for all and as a department we have had a number of activities to tell you about.

Clubs are now up and running for both boys and girls and we have to say there has been a fantastic turn out for most of them. We enjoy after school clubs very much and would love more of you to come and get involved so if you are interested then please check out the Sports Club timetable that is posted on the blog site, or ask a member of PE staff for details.

In the boys football the results have been varied …………….
A huge congratulations needs to go to the Year 7 Boys Football team who won the Sandwell 5 – a – side tournament winning with a game to spare. On the way to the title they beat St Michaels, Perryfields and Bristnall Hall and drew with Shirelands. The team included; Callum Taylor, Cain Farley, Kamran Azmat, Lewis Hodgetts, Zak Etherington, Harry Cotton, Darren Sandhu, Sam Whittaker. Well done to all the boys involved and to our very own Jose Mourinho Mr Samuels for the time taken to train the boys

In girls Basketball we have a number of fixtures to fulfil and will inform you of any results as and when we play games. The girls have been extremely committed and thank you to them for their efforts at training in preparation for the league. The girls involved are; Megan Ralph, Chelsea Price, Mariam Shaheen, Fran Hazlewood-Campbell and Georgia Madeley.

The year 11 cohort are well into their Sports Leaders Awards and we hope to complete this award by the end of the spring term. Well done so far to all involved and showing great qualities and skills when leading other peers and younger students.

We are already in preparation for the annual Gym and Dance festivals that will be held in the spring term. If you are interested in performing as a group you need to speak to Miss McIntyre to show an expression of interest.

The last thing we would like to say to you all is Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you all again in 2013!

June 2012

Hello to all and well what can we say. We should be well into our summer sports activities now but the weather has been somewhat inconsistent to say the least. We have, however, laughed in the face of adversity and have managed get the activities going in both lessons and for our after school clubs. The new after school sports clubs are at the bottom for you all to see. As always the more the merrier!

Now for some department news;

Our Year 11 boys won the final of the District Schools Cup beating Bristnall Hall at Tividale FC. Well done to all the boys involved and let’s see if England can follow in your footsteps and win a cup! The U16 Girls Rounders team won their first fixture of the season beating Holly Lodge in a very pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Well done to the girls and hopefully we can gain a few more wins. Over 70 of our Year 11 students recently took their Sports Leaders Level 1 assessment and passed! Thank you to Burnt Tree Primary School for the help they have given the academy providing young people to take part in Sports Leader assessment sessions.

We have had the pleasure of running some taster sessions of different activities for our year 10 and 11 classes. These classes are now running after school and are open to Years 9 & 10 (see clubs below). They are run by external coaches and have been enjoyed by students who have been taking part in the lessons.

Finally, we will be hosting the school house sports day on Friday 13th July at Tipton Sports Academy. Details will be confirmed and sent out to students and staff in the near future.

June 2011

Hi and welcome to our 1st Sports Blog,

As ever we have had a busy spring and summer term in the PE department with a huge number of activities running both in school and out of school time.

 As well as core lessons, we have managed to get our Year 11 students successfully through their Btec Sport syllabus and our Year 10 students are currently matching expectations and are working extremely hard to complete coursework before the summer term deadline. Keep up the hard work!

 This term has also seen over 65 Year 11 students complete their Level 1 award in Sports Leadership. From our close partnership with Burnt Tree Primary school  we have been able to use their time and year 5 & 6 students which has helped our own students to complete assessment sessions successfully. Some of our younger students have also been showing off their leadership skills by assisting with the organisation and running of both our own activities and Primary activities as part of the sports captains role they play within the academy.

 Both the Primary and Secondary Gym and Dance festivals that we organised in Spring were a great success with performers from as young as 4 years old up to our 6th form students who are 17. All festivals were sold out and visitors to the shows enjoyed performances by our youngsters immensely. The PE department are enjoying a well-earned mini break before they attempt to organise the next festivals. As well as our gym and dance festivals a number of our students have worked closely with our primary school students performing at the Gymnastics spectacular that is run annually as well.

 As well as activities in school time, the department have been running various clubs out of school hours that have enabled the academy to have representation at a number of sports events against other schools around the local area. A number of our students have represented the academy at fixtures including; Cricket, Athletics, Rounders, Football, Basketball and Rugby.

 There is still time to come and play your part. If you enjoy staying active or just want to get involved then the PE department after school clubs are as follows;
