Curriculum Overview
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum to all students, which increasingly allows qualifications to be obtained when academically ready, rather than of a certain age. The curriculum offers a mix of core, traditional and vocational subjects for every student.
At Key Stage 3, all students study English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Design and Technology, Modern Foreign Languages, History, Geography and Religious Education, Information and Communications Technology, Drama, Dance, Art and Music. Personal, Social and Health Education is taught during a number of collapsed focus days and through an extended morning registration in the Review and Guidance period.
In Year 7, a thematic curriculum is taught in the Humanities covering English and ICT to aid transition.
At Key Stage 4, students continue to follow the core curriculum, including ALAN tests and our option offer reflects our Arts College status. All students are given the opportunity to undertake BTEC and other vocational courses. A small number of students undertake college placements one day each week.
In Years 12 and 13, we continue to expand the curriculum on offer. We are able to offer a range of AS/A2 and BTEC courses at all levels, based on prior attainment, both at the academy and through our partnership with Perryfields High School and Dudley College. All students also undertake Key Skills in Communication and Numeracy at an appropriate level. We ensure that all students can progress to university, to further training or to employment.
